Thousands of fans anxiously anticipated an explosive race from sophomore NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Chris Buescher and the new Salted Nut Roll Ford Mustang at the U.S. Cellular 250 last Saturday. Currently the NASCAR XFINITY Series points leader, Buescher was looking to widen his lead over the pack with a strong showing at Iowa Speedway.
Unfortunately, it was not his night. Ryan Blaney led 252 out of the 260 laps needed to finish off the race. It was a dominant performance—one that no one could out-pace.
Buescher nearly cracked Blaney’s perfect run with a strong start, advancing to fourth place by Lap 20 and third by Lap 40, but contact on a late-race restart, forced Buescher to pit road due to a flat tire. Buescher was left with a 13th-place finish, shaving five points off his XFINITY Series lead.
He still has a 20 point lead, though. And a winning smile.
